for their respective candidates. both campaigns aggressively attacking the other over what was said. the romney campaign going after joe biden about his comments about the consulate in benghazi. state department officials testified before a congressional hearing that they had turned down requests for additional security at that consulate. contrast that with what vice president biden said last evening. >> we weren't told they wanted more security there. we did not know they wanted more security again. and by the way we were told exactly, we said exactly what the intelligence community told us, that they knew, that was the assessment. and as the intelligence community changed their view we made it clear they changed their view. >> at the same time right now as this event is going on the white house is saying, well, wait a second, while the say the department knew about the requests the president and the vice president didn't know about them, which might seem to indicate some sort of massive disconnect in the post 9/11 efforts to get all of the government he tk departments talking to each other ab

with mitt romney, they're both willing to say and do anything to become president and vice president. and they're a little fast and loose with the facts. that's a lesson we've learned. we've been holding their feet to the fire over the last ten days. and we're going to continue to do that. the president included. >> the president says he was a little too polite last time. maybe he'll be less polite this time. here's another little exchange that the vice president had with paul ryan. i'm going to play some of these clips. >> 7.4 million seniors are projected to lose the current medicare advantage coverage they have, that's a $3,200 benefit cut -- >> more people -- >> these are from your own actuaries. >> more people signed up for medicare advantage after the change. >> it's a plan i put together with a prominent democratic senator from oregon -- >> there's not one democrat that endorses it. not one democrat who signed the plan -- >> mr. vice president, i know you're under a lot of duress to make up for lost ground, but i think we would be better served if we don't keep interrupting ea

romney. >> this morning both sides are claiming victory and, indeed, everything may change in the next five days when president obama and governor romney take the stage again. but what biden did give is the president -- gave the president a path throwing his detractors off the scent and leading his best friend on the path towards victory. franklin, as the new guy at the table, i ask you first, did vice president biden get the obama campaign back in a place it wants to be? >> well, i'm not sure he got them exactly in the place where they want to be, but i think that he did help stem some of the damage. i think he made best bed wetting liberals like myself feel much better, that they had regained some of its offensive juju and weren't going to roll over why the rejuvenated romney walloped them. >> what was your assessment of paul ryan overall? we're going to get to specific sound but in terms of paul ryan and his debate skills last night, what -- how do you grade limb? >> i think what people are looking for when they are going to watch a debate like this, especially a young -- relatively

personal position is very similar to governor romney's. i thought both of these -- the candidates last night were sincere and made good statements on that subject. i do think the vice president was sincerely wrong when he said that religious institutions are not going to have to provide contraceptives when it's against their crede. i think the law does that. but i thought they were both pretty good on that. i think this election is still about economics and in the first instance and then foreign policy and i thought vice president -- i thought -- i almost said vice president ryan. congressman ryan did a great job in explaining governor romney's position on those. i also think that -- >> go ahead. >> avoided mistakes and the vice president didn't. his statements on benghazi as you've been covering andrea, are going to be an ongoing problem for the administration. they really just enhanced the contradictions in the administration's policy. >> there were other issues for paul ryan, though, when it came to medicare and tax policy that have been questioned. what about the differences over m

. >> ashley, i think you will see a couple of those things. you ma i see both of those things when mitt romney gets out here in just a few moment from now. the romney campaign is pretty pleased with what the american people saw at that presidential debate last week. they saw mitt romney going toe to toe with president obama and so now is another chance they think for the american people to say mitt romney filling out the role as commander in chief and laying out his foreign policy principles and then after the speech is over he will be meeting in a round table with a group of retired generals. again, another one of those images that the campaign would like to put out there of mitt romney as commander in chief. just to talk a little about what you and wolf were talking about a few moments ago, you go into the excerpts and you can take away a few different things. i was listening to a call yesterday and you just mentioned the situation in syria and they were talking about this idea of providing arms to the rebels in syria as an idea that would appeal to the left as to people who look at this fro

are calling governor romney that. that is very absurd here. what they have done is to store it what each of these candidates is advocating, it has been distorted by both sides on occasion. what they are doing right now, the obama campaign, is really beyond compare. the reality is, professor rosen is stepping forward to defend his analysis, saying that the white house and the president and his campaign staff are utterly wrong when they suggest that lowering rates is not adequate to simulate more growth and to reach a revenue neutral solution. megyn: david axelrod was on the sunday shows saying if you lower rates, and eliminate loopholes, he says, i am not giving gifts to the rich because i'm going to get rid of a lot of popular deductions that the rich take. but david axelrod says that's not enough. even doing that is not enough to make up for all the revenue that he is going to sacrifice by lowering the rates. lou: he wants to do something very important. the national liberal media will not focus on it. he is talking about ending loopholes and shutting down these inefficiencies within ou

said what if bashar al assad doesn't go away, but they both agree no boots on the ground in syria. >> looking back and not looking forward. paul ryan is talking about what potentially a romney/ryan ticket would have done differently if they had been in charge, identify rebel groups, identify freedom fighters, perhaps help those that the united states might want to push forward as far as the future leadership of syria is concerned a little bit earlier than the obama administration has. but as far as plans for what happens from this point on, no. and there is no appetite from the united states or quite frankly any country in the western world for boots on the ground in syria. as we heard from the vice president, joe biden, this is not libya. it is a much more complicated scenario. >> i want to get to the libya comparison in a minute. ryan claimed that the administration referred to assad as a reformer. a reformer. to your best -- >> no, this has been -- it has not. this has been fact checked by several sources including cnn. the word reformer was used by hillary clinton in march of

guests today. we both voted for obama, and if you are going to think this is a funny, but my decision came with the last debate, and the reason was the minutes that mitt romney said that he was not going to cut the 1%-ers, i read all the people, and there is one thing that i have taught my children, my grandchildren, is do not lie. that was a big lie. jerry, when we got together 12 years, he was a republican, i was an independent. each time we vote, we say, we might as well not vote because you are going to cancel my vote out. this is the first time we did not cancel each other's phone app. he came close to not being able to but because he gave up his license a year ago, and he needed to go down and get a florida i.d., and then all the sun, you got a passport. so he was able to vote. i listened to them all. there were some things i liked on both sides, but i decided not to change horses in the middle of the stream. host: the early voting quest was there a line? caller: i floated through the mail. my daughter is here in florida. she just came in on my 80th birthday. she met a man here.
